The 89th Alice |
The 88th Alice (88人目のアリス, Hachi Jū Hachi Hitome no Arisu), also known as Regret (未練, Miren), was the past candidate of being "Alice of Wonderland" before the 89th Alice, regarded as the most excellent Alice candidate. She is also the Regret of the Cheshire Cat.
Background[]
Presumably, she had a boring and mediocre name which she resented, deeming it as the worst present from her parents. At one point, she was chosen by the White Rabbit to take the role as the 88th candidate of Alice of Wonderland. He discussed the details of the game with her in order for the people to acknowledge her existence. Despite her protestations and confusion, she arrived at the Hatter's flat; he then told her of his duty to protect her as Alice.[2]
At some point during the game, she and the Hatter attempted to locate the Dormouse; they encountered three young children, who made fun of her as a way to test the candidate's personality as Alice. The Hatter reprimanded them and asked them to leave Alice alone. The Duchess arrived, and Alice asked if the Hatter knew her, to which he disagreed. When they left, the Hatter encouraged Alice in catching the White Rabbit.[3]
The Cheshire Cat stabs the 88th Alice
She was noted as one of the best Alice candidates, being acknowledged by many people including the Hatter[2] and the dormouse.[4] However, one day, she was unexpectedly stabbed by the Cheshire Cat, resulting in her death.[5] After her death, she would exist as a Regret; at one point, she specifically belonged to the Cheshire Cat. Upon becoming so, she bears the name "The Cheshire Cat's Regret Who Was Blown Aside by Looking-Glass Land".[1]
Personality[]
As described by the Queen of Hearts and the Duchess, the 88th Alice was carefree, obedient, and a satisfactory choice to be inserted in the story.[2] She was considered as one of, if not, the most outstanding Alice candidates, and many people believed that she might have had finished the game, had it not been for her demise.

The Regret slaps the Cheshire Cat
As the Cheshire Cat wanders around Wonderland after leaving his mistress, the 88th Alice seems to be appeared behind him. Later, she appears before him in perfect human form despite being a regret. She expresses her hatred toward the current Alice and the Cheshire Cat, the one who killed her. She voices out her bitterness at him for making her unable to finish the game despite being an outstanding candidate, even being acknowledged by "Sensei". The Cheshire Cat tells her some information towards her about the current Alice and asks to make a deal with her.[5] However, she slaps him and rejects his offer; she becomes enraged at the fact that she could not become the real Alice despite her promising potential to become such.
The Three Children[]
After Rogy, Bibi, and Coco were executed, Alice took his frustration out to the streets of Wonderland. Clouded by thoughts of anger, the Regret visits Alice and pats him on the head.[6] She tempts him into returning the name "Alice" back to her, but the Hatter arrives just in time to shoot her and cause her to dissipate. Somewhere, she reverts to her human form and angrily voices her hatred towards the current Alice. The Cheshire Cat once again offers her a chance to make a deal with him.[7]
